Mission Statement & Objectives

The Zoological Society of Manitoba functions in three roles:

  1. To promote the welfare and continuation of the Society.
  2. To focus on the development of Assiniboine Park Zoo, making it a collection of merit and distinction.
  3. To match concern with action for the preservation of earth’s wildlife and their habitat.

Objectives of the Zoological Society of Manitoba:
The Society recognizes that a modern zoo functions in five important roles:

Cultural Development, Education, Preservation, Recreation, and Research

And considers these roles as the overriding guide for the following objectives:

  1. To stimulate the development of the Society and Assiniboine Park Zoo through progressive improvement in order to provide Winnipeg with a zoological attraction of merit and distinction.
  2. To provide services for the Society’s members and to cultivate an outreach into the community-at-large.
  3. By linking with other agencies and organizations, which have similar interests to those of the Society, to further the causes of the Society.
